Webflow’s approach to OSS funding
Blog post from Webflow
Webflow has initiated a revamped approach to funding open-source software (OSS) projects, recognizing both the ideological and practical benefits of supporting these foundational tools. Previously driven by co-founder Vlad Magdalin's personal selections, the funding process has evolved into a more structured, data-driven effort that reflects Webflow's collaborative culture. The company developed an "Impact Grid" to prioritize funding based on factors such as relevance to Webflow, the impact of contributions, potential for employee involvement, and community engagement. This transparent and adaptable model ensures that funding aligns with the company's needs and the OSS community's sustainability. Initially, Webflow has chosen to support four specific projects: CodeMirror, TanStack, Emotion, and Reactflow, each integral to their operations. The company emphasizes the importance of incremental changes, aligning the initiative with their broader goal of maintaining reliability for the vast number of users who depend on their platform. Feedback from the community is encouraged as Webflow continues to assess and refine its OSS funding strategy.
