How to plot every CMS location as a Google Maps marker with a Webflow Cloud app
Blog post from Webflow
A Webflow Cloud and Next.js approach can automatically display Google Maps markers from a Webflow CMS Locations Collection, allowing editors to publish new locations without code changes. The setup requires CMS access, a read-only Webflow API token, a Google Cloud project with billing, a restricted Maps JavaScript API key and Map ID, Node.js 22+, a compatible Next.js App Router project, and version control. Locations store numeric latitude and longitude fields, while a server-side Route Handler securely retrieves published CMS items through Webflow’s Content Delivery API, paginates results, validates coordinates, caches successful responses, and excludes incomplete entries. A client-side component loads the Google Maps API once, requests location data using the Webflow Cloud base path, creates Advanced Markers, and adjusts map bounds to include all locations. Deployment requires configuring secret and public environment variables, especially the mount path such as `/map`, because public Next.js variables are embedded during builds. Common deployment problems include missing base-path prefixes causing 404 errors, unsupported Next.js edge runtime exports, absent server-side credentials causing 500 or 502 responses, and Google API referrer restrictions that reject the deployed domain.
