Trumbo: An AI-Driven Workspace for Creative Collaboration in Filmmaking
Blog post from Vultr
Trumbo, an AI-driven workspace designed for creative collaboration in filmmaking, emerged as a standout project during the KXSB HackXelerator 2025, winning the Film category. Developed over a 20-day sprint by a team led by Dmitry, along with collaborators Yerson, Peter, and Ryan, Trumbo aims to integrate AI-driven automation with a semantically aware workspace to support the entire film production lifecycle, from screenwriting to production. Inspired by "The Tools of Screenwriting" by David Howard and Edward Mabley, Trumbo uses generative AI and large language models to interpret and tag scripts, enhancing productivity by reducing manual effort. Unlike existing tools that focus on individual stages like writing or analysis, Trumbo provides a holistic platform connecting writers, directors, and producers. The development team utilized technologies such as Vultr cloud, the AMD Instinct MI325X Accelerator, Kotlin, and Python, with a significant technical breakthrough being the discovery of AMD's Instinct hardware with 256GB vRAM. Moving forward, the team plans to develop an alpha version and test it with real-world creative teams to refine the user experience and validate their approach.
