Backend.AI Hands-on Workshop: Making High-performance AI Environment Accessible for Everyone

Lablup Inc. is dedicated to making Backend.AI accessible by hosting hands-on workshops multiple times a year, where participants use their own Ubuntu Linux laptops to set up a minimal Backend.AI environment and run lightweight LLMs. The workshops face challenges in providing high-performance environments due to the cost and accessibility of GPU resources, prompting collaboration with Vultr, which provided over 30 L40s GPU instances, enabling participants to access pre-configured, unified GPU environments. This collaboration aligns with Lablup's mission to make high-performance AI infrastructure practical and accessible, allowing participants to not only install Backend.AI but also explore its applications in real-world scenarios. Lablup and Vultr have also partnered on benchmark projects using Vultr Cloud GPUs powered by NVIDIA’s B200 hardware to explore synergies in generating synthetic data for domain-specific LLMs.
