Vercel and Shopify make agents first-class shoppers
Blog post from Vercel
Vercel Shop is now generally available as an open-source Next.js storefront template for Shopify that aims to support human shoppers, search engines, and AI agents equally. Built on Shopify’s newly rebuilt, framework-compatible Hydrogen SDK, it gives developers access to product catalogs, carts, orders, payments, and checkout infrastructure for custom commerce experiences. The template exposes product information such as pricing, availability, and options in machine-readable formats, adds structured data and sitemaps for discovery, and supports the Universal Commerce Protocol, enabling agents to search catalogs, inspect products, build carts, and obtain checkout links through merchant domains. It also includes an eve-powered shopping assistant that shares a cart with the conventional storefront, allowing customers to switch between browsing and conversational shopping. Vercel has launched its own merchandise store using the template and cites existing Shopify, Next.js, and Vercel customers, including PAIGE, which reported higher revenue and conversion rates after replatforming.
