Making every harness durable
Blog post from Vercel
Durable-harness is an open-source set of adapters and utilities that makes coding-agent harnesses such as Pi, OpenCode, Codex, and Claude Code resilient to crashes, timeouts, and disconnections when run locally, on Vercel, or through self-hosted infrastructure. Built on Workflow SDK’s World interface, it records model and tool-call intents and outcomes in a durable log, uses queues to resume interrupted turns on new functions, avoids repeating completed calls and their costs, and restores harness session data from logged records. Developers can select storage backends including Vercel World, local files, Postgres, MongoDB, Redis, and Turso, while Agent Runs on Vercel provides traces of sessions and resumed work. The system distinguishes replay-safe tools, such as lookups, from operations that must not run twice, such as refunds or posting comments, and supports virtual workspaces, persistent Vercel Sandboxes, and durable typed documents for session state such as plans or to-do lists.
