Introducing Geist Serif
Blog post from Vercel
Vercel has introduced Geist Serif, a high-contrast display serif that expands its Geist type family alongside Geist Sans, Mono, and Pixel, pairing editorial and fashion-inspired character with forms optimized for modern high-density screens. Developed from initial sketches by Evil Rabbit and expanded by Andrés Briganti and Mark Davis, the typeface uses sharp hairlines, asymmetrical saw-toothed serifs, and proportions aligned with Geist Sans so the families can be mixed without disrupting layout. Geist Serif launches in one Regular weight with four dot-shape variants—round, square, triangle, and heart—available as variable and static font files, and includes 894 glyphs, five stylistic sets, support for 352 Latin-script languages, and more than 52,000 kerning pairs. It is distributed through the Geist npm package and downloadable from Vercel’s font site, while additional weights from Thin to Black, a text-oriented version, italics, Cyrillic coverage, and eventual Google Fonts availability are in development.
