x402 is Live on Venice — the Internet-Native Payment Standard for Agentic Commerce
Blog post from Venice
x402, an internet-native payment standard initially developed by Coinbase and now governed by the Linux Foundation, is integrated into Venice, a platform that provides comprehensive services for agents such as text and reasoning, image and video generation, and transcription through a single API. This implementation allows agents to operate autonomously by enabling payments directly from a wallet on Base, removing the need for human involvement in provisioning API keys or adding credit cards. Agents and builders using x402 on Venice can engage in activities such as writing, coding, summarization, audio and video generation, and retrieval, while transactions are managed seamlessly through DIEM-backed balances or USDC. The integration of x402 also utilizes the HTTP 402 Payment Required status code, which has been dormant since 1995, to facilitate these transactions. Venice handles the authentication of x402 requests by verifying wallet signatures and automatically processes payments, thereby enhancing the functionality and ease of use for builders and agents operating within the ecosystem.
