Vantage Launches Extended Support Reporting and Recommendations for AWS EKS
Blog post from Vantage
Vantage has announced the general availability of AWS Extended Support Reporting and Recommendations for Amazon's Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS), designed to help customers effectively manage the lifecycle of their EKS clusters. This new feature provides detailed visibility into the support status of Kubernetes versions, highlighting clusters that incur Extended Support fees and those nearing end-of-life milestones to facilitate proactive planning, cost optimization, and compliance with AWS support policies. It includes metadata about support types and a complete support calendar within Active Resources, allowing customers to filter and create views based on their clusters' support status. AWS began charging Extended Support fees in 2023, adding an additional year of support for a premium beyond the standard support period to encourage customers to transition away from legacy versions. Vantage's tool automatically annotates clusters with their current support type and provides direct links to the AWS console to perform necessary upgrades, aiming to guide engineers on avoiding additional charges and offering recommendations for clusters incurring or approaching Extended Support fees. These capabilities are available to all Vantage customers with an AWS connection without additional cost, though specific recommendations are obscured during a free trial.
