Vantage has undertaken a complete rewrite of ec2instances.info, a popular open-source tool acquired over four years ago for evaluating Amazon EC2 server specifications and pricing, with the aim of improving both speed and user experience. Initially acquired when the company was in its infancy, ec2instances.info has grown significantly from 275,000 to nearly 4,000,000 unique users, despite its outdated codebase which hindered developer contributions and user value delivery. To address these challenges, Vantage collaborated with external contractors to develop a modern, open-source version of the site, drastically improving load times from over 12 seconds to just one second and ensuring data is refreshed every four hours for accuracy. The updated site now includes features such as custom social previews and expanded services beyond AWS and EC2, and Vantage is actively working through feature requests faster than before. The new version of ec2instances.info seeks to maintain user experience while enhancing the ability to respond to customer feedback and improve functionality, inviting user input to guide future enhancements.
