How to See AWS Public IPv4 Address Costs
Blog post from Vantage
In February 2024, AWS introduced a new pricing model for public IPv4 addresses, charging $0.005 per hour to encourage users to adopt IPv6 due to the exhaustion of IPv4 addresses. Despite the abundance of IPv6 addresses, widespread adoption remains challenging due to compatibility issues with existing infrastructure, software, and lack of support for certain AWS services. AWS provides tools like Public IP Insights and Cost Explorer to help users monitor and analyze their IPv4 usage and costs, while Vantage offers a comprehensive view of costs, including forecasting and detailed breakdowns by region and usage type. Organizations can optimize costs by removing idle IPv4 addresses, considering a switch to IPv6 where possible, and using alternative solutions like NAT Gateways. As the global transition to IPv6 progresses, understanding and optimizing IP address costs becomes increasingly important.
