What the Performance Agent found in a Drupal site for 90 cents
Blog post from Upsun
A customer tested the Drupal Performance Agent on a disposable project containing a deliberately introduced N+1 database query, which the agent identified in custom code and accompanied with an applicable patch. More notably, it discovered an unintentional Redis configuration issue: although Redis had been provisioned, Drupal’s cache backend was not connected to it, causing cache reads to fall back to the database and reportedly accounting for roughly half of request time on examined routes. The agent also recommended opcache and autoloader optimizations, each with patches, completing the analysis in minutes for $0.90 in model API costs under a default $5 budget. Unlike tools that rely only on logs, metrics, and traces, the Performance Agent combines Blackfire profiling data, traffic priorities, service topology, and source-code analysis to identify likely causes and proposed fixes. It runs on Upsun Cloud, requires configuration and an Anthropic or OpenAI API key, produces reports without making changes, and is recommended for testing first on an application with a known issue before use in production.
