Cut your debug time by reproducing production on demand
Blog post from Upsun
Upsun’s preview environments are presented as a way to reduce debugging time by giving each branch an on-demand, isolated clone of production with the same data, services, runtime, and configuration. Rather than manually recreating difficult conditions from snapshots and assumptions, engineers can reproduce failures directly against realistic conditions, experiment safely without affecting live systems, and validate fixes before deployment. The platform uses storage-level copy-on-write cloning, which snapshots metadata and records only changes made in the new environment, allowing even terabyte-scale databases to be cloned in under a minute instead of through lengthy dump-and-restore processes. To address privacy concerns, deploy hooks can run sanitization scripts that anonymize or remove personally identifiable information from cloned production data. Environments are automatically removed when branches close or can be paused during inactive investigations, reducing manual setup and ongoing maintenance.
