Fast Anywhere with Upstash Global 2.0
Blog post from Upstash
Upstash has announced an updated version of its global Redis database, designed to enhance performance by allowing users to select regions for data replication, thereby optimizing for low latency and high availability. The system supports edge runtimes like Cloudflare Workers and Vercel Edge, and includes a HTTP-based Redis client compatible with these platforms. In this architecture, data is stored with a primary replica for write commands and multiple read replicas for read commands, minimizing latency by fetching data from the nearest replica. Users can customize their primary and read regions to ensure efficient data access for their user base, with pricing based on the number of commands executed and storage used. The update includes coverage in several AWS regions with plans for further expansion, as well as features like region-specific primary selection per key, which allows applications to write data to the closest replica to reduce write latency. Upstash encourages feedback and contributions to improve the service further, with additional tools like a benchmarking app in development to help users choose the fastest database product for their needs.
