Context7 has opened its documentation database through a new single-request Search API that lets developers submit natural-language coding questions and receive compact, ready-to-use snippets from official library, framework, and API documentation. Positioned as a code-focused alternative to general web search, the service selects relevant libraries, searches and reranks their documentation, and returns attributed results while avoiding potentially outdated or unreliable material such as forum posts and unverified blogs. Documentation is managed by library owners, scanned for malware and prompt injection before indexing, and optimized for token-efficient use by returning extracted snippets with token counts rather than full webpages. The GET endpoint can be tried without an API key under IP-based rate limits, while production usage supports API keys, optional hints for libraries, language, versions, and output format, plus a TypeScript SDK. Context7 recommends Search for fast grounding in coding agents, chat tools, IDE plugins, and code-review bots, while its existing Context API remains intended for deeper, library-specific research and multi-step exploration; pricing includes 1,000 free monthly calls and paid plans with additional usage fees.
