The State of SaaS APIs 2026: Building Integrations Got Cheap. The Limits Are in the APIs.
Blog post from Unified.to
A Unified.to analysis of 327 established SaaS integrations and 2,228 supported objects argues that while coding agents have greatly reduced the effort required to build API integrations, vendors’ API capabilities remain the main constraint on maintaining reliable, current data connections. Nearly all measured objects can be read, but only 40.5% of listable objects support modified-since filtering, 33.9% of integrations lack such filtering entirely, and only 17.3% of event-enabled objects report deletions, forcing products to rely on costly full-collection polling or risk stale records. CRM and accounting APIs offer comparatively stronger change tracking than HRIS, messaging, generative AI, and advertising platforms, while many integrations also lack OAuth2, increasing customer onboarding friction. Native webhook coverage appears higher than in the report’s approximate 2024 comparison, but the study notes that methodological differences prevent firm trend conclusions. MCP has standardized agent tool calls but not multi-customer authentication and delegation, leaving vendors with varied onboarding approaches. Unified.to presents virtual webhooks, standardized authorization, MCP access, and database synchronization as ways to address some gaps, while acknowledging that reliable deletion detection still largely depends on vendor support; the findings are based on its own public integration records and carry an explicit commercial-interest disclosure.
