NetSuite Authentication Setup for Unified
Blog post from Unified.to
Unified connects to NetSuite through either recommended OAuth 2.0 Authorization Code Grant authentication or legacy Token-Based Authentication (TBA/OAuth 1.0a), with both using SuiteTalk REST Web Services and requiring the NetSuite Account ID, also called the realm. OAuth 2.0 uses a customer-created Integration Record, workspace Client ID and Client Secret, browser consent, and automatically refreshed tokens, while TBA requires five manually managed long-lived credentials and will no longer permit new integrations beginning with NetSuite 2027.1. Setup for either method requires enabling the appropriate authentication feature and REST Web Services, identifying the correct production or sandbox Account ID, and assigning an Administrator role or a custom role with relevant transaction, list, setup, subsidiary, and API-access permissions. OAuth 2.0 integrations must configure authorization code grant, a Unified callback URL, and Public Client/PKCE for multitenant use, whereas TBA requires creating an Integration Record and an access token tied to a specific user and role. Common authentication and permission failures are linked to incorrect roles, missing permissions, disabled features, wrong environment credentials, or mismatched TBA records, with NetSuiteās Login Audit Trail recommended for diagnosis; TBA tokens should be rotated manually when needed, while OAuth grants can be revoked and reauthorized if user access or roles change.
