How to Track the Candidate Journey Through an ATS Pipeline with
Blog post from Unified.to
Unified.to’s ATS API enables product teams to build candidate-journey timelines by treating each job application, rather than the candidate alone, as the central record and combining its current status, explicit lifecycle timestamps, job context, interviews, scorecards, activities, and documents. Because ATS platforms differ substantially in their pipeline models and data availability, the API normalizes available objects while preserving native status values, but does not reconstruct historical stage changes, infer missing transitions, or treat activities as status updates. A defensible timeline should therefore include only source-recorded milestones such as application submission, offers, rejection, hiring, scheduled interviews, feedback, communications, and exchanged artifacts. Teams should verify object support and field enums for each ATS integration, account for missing timestamps as unrecorded rather than absent events, and retrieve expiring document URLs only when needed. To keep timelines current, applications and linked objects can be refreshed incrementally using updated timestamps where supported or monitored through webhooks, with product teams responsible for storing the resulting timeline and deciding what information to display.
