How to Read Employee Payroll History from Payslips with
Blog post from Unified.to
Unified.to’s HR & Directory API enables teams building payroll analytics, auditing, or benefits features to retrieve employee payroll history from payslips on supported integrations including ADP Workforce Now, UKG Pro HCM, Workday Legacy, Remote.com, Deel, and Xero. Rather than reconstructing historical compensation from current employee salary fields, the API returns source-system payroll records, with each read-only payslip representing a pay-period snapshot containing dates, gross and net amounts, and earnings, tax, and deduction details when available. Developers first fetch employees, then join payslips through employee IDs, while optionally joining timeshifts for hourly workers on integrations that support shift and compensation data. Payslips must be date-filtered client-side, whereas timeshifts can support server-side date filtering, and all totals, currency handling, and compensation-frequency conversions must be performed by the client because the API provides raw records rather than aggregation or normalization. Feature availability varies by integration, and unsupported payroll objects return a 501 status without invalidating the connection, while authorization and permission issues return 401 and 403 responses.
