One name in, whichever vendor you like out
Blog post from Tyk
Tyk’s Enterprise Model Router provides a single OpenAI-compatible gateway endpoint that lets applications use stable internal model aliases while routing each request to registered LLM providers such as OpenAI or Anthropic. Routers contain pools that match requested model names through glob patterns, select vendors using round-robin or weighted distribution, and can use priority rules to ensure more specific pools override broader matches. Model mappings translate an internal alias, such as “house-standard,” into the vendor-specific model name required by the selected provider, allowing teams to change providers, distribute traffic, or define service tiers without changing application code. Router configuration must be pushed from the control plane to the edge gateway before requests are served, and routed traffic continues to use normal provider authentication, budgets, filters, plugins, usage attribution, and token accounting. The feature supports traffic allocation and provider abstraction but does not provide health checks, retries, automatic failover, or fallback routing when a chosen vendor is unavailable.
