One environment variable, and Claude Code is suddenly accountable
Blog post from Tyk
Tyk AI Studio can govern Claude Code usage by redirecting its Anthropic API traffic through a unified gateway using the ANTHROPIC_BASE_URL environment variable and an App-specific API secret, without modifying the client or exposing the organization’s Anthropic credential. The platform registers providers with configurable model restrictions, budgets, secret references, and pricing tables that calculate per-request costs from vendor-reported input, output, and prompt-cache token counts; missing model pricing entries result in recorded but zero-valued costs. Applications receive separately approved, revocable credentials that provide attribution to named owners and can be constrained by App- or provider-level budgets, with Enterprise enforcing spending limits by rejecting excess requests. The gateway logs calls, can retain or omit request and response content for compliance, and provides a point to filter, redact, block, or rewrite prompts before they reach the model vendor. Developers continue using Claude Code normally after accepting the custom API key prompt, while administrators gain dashboards and logs showing token usage, model-level spending, request status, ownership, and individual interactions.
