Twilio and Sony have partnered to enable voice calling on low-power, LTE-M cellular IoT devices. With this integration, developers can add voice communications to their products with just a few lines of code, using the ALT1250 chipset within their device, a SIP or WebRTC client, and a microphone and speaker. This new capability simplifies design and reduces cost for portable, low-power IoT devices with global voice functionality. Twilio's Programmable Voice and SIP interface functionality allows developers to augment their VoIP infrastructure using cloud-based capabilities. The integration also enables the use of the AMR-NB codec, which allows for a low-bandwidth media stream effective for use with ALT1250 low-power devices on cellular networks. This partnership opens up possibilities for digital transformation and powering up voice communications using Twilio and Sony's ALT1250 based devices.
