The Twilio for Government contest was part of a larger event where Twilio showcased its capabilities in the government sector. The company launched a government landing page and held a presentation at the White House, demonstrating the potential of voice applications for government. As part of this initiative, Mobile Commons developed a tool that allows citizens to contact their local representatives in the Senate and Congress, as well as the President of the United States. This tool provides various ways for citizens to initiate calls, including web interface, SMS, or dialing a specific phone number. Additionally, FixMyCityDC was launched, which enables taxpayers to report issues with public property and services and receive updates on the resolution status. The creator of FixMyCityDC, Zvi Band, used Twilio's API in building his project, which took only one month to complete, and received an Honorable Mention in a competition.
