Twilio offers several protective measures against SMS pumping fraud, a deceptive practice where fraudsters generate fake SMS traffic to inflate costs. Verify Fraud Guard is built into the Verify API and analyzes current and historical SMS traffic for unusual patterns, automatically blocking suspected fraud. The Lookup API provides an SMS pumping risk score based on carrier information, abnormal traffic patterns, and low one-time passcode conversion rates.
