Is BYOIP Right for Your Email Program?
Blog post from Twilio
Bring Your Own IP (BYOIP) is a process that allows organizations to send emails using their existing IP addresses through email service providers like Twilio SendGrid, leveraging the provider's infrastructure while maintaining their established IP reputation. The process is intricate, requiring steps such as obtaining a Letter of Authorization, updating Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) and Routing Assets Database (RADb) records, and making DNS and reverse DNS (rDNS) configurations. While BYOIP can be beneficial for high-volume senders migrating from on-premise to cloud-based email solutions or those that send on behalf of multiple customers, it is not a quick alternative to IP warm-up, as it involves a significant time commitment and potential downtime. Despite these challenges, BYOIP can help retain IP reputation when transitioning, although it is crucial to weigh the benefits against drawbacks like downtime and the need for potential rewarming of IPs. Twilio SendGrid offers support through its Professional Services team to assist clients in navigating this complex migration process and optimizing deliverability.
