Deaftel is a mobile app that enables deaf individuals to communicate on their phone without the need for a relay operator or extra hardware, converting spoken voice into text and vice versa using Twilio SMS-powered text-to-speech conversion. The app was created by Kunal Batra after he found it difficult to find a solution for this problem as a developer, and gained traction quickly enough that he decided to focus on the app full-time, presenting at NY Demo Day and receiving coverage in Forbes.
