Twilio has introduced an enhanced Answering Machine Detection (AMD) feature for its Programmable Voice service, which determines if a call was picked up by a human or machine and allows users to deliver targeted messages. The new AMD uses a machine learning algorithm trained on thousands of call samples to achieve a 94% accuracy rate across US and Canadian calls. It offers two modes: recognizing who picked up the call immediately, and detecting when an answering machine greeting ends to allow for complete message delivery. The feature is now available in public beta for calling in the US and Canada, with support for the UK under development.
