PennApps Recap: EyePhone, Inventory, and Making Your Coffee Maker Text You`
The largest student hackathon in the world, PennApps, took place in Philadelphia. Developer Evangelist Jon Gottfried was on site to help participants with live coding demos and assistance. The event featured numerous innovative hacks, including the Twilio Prize-winning app EyePhone, which gives users camera-like powers for good, and the 1st Place winner Inventory, which uses RFID scanners to keep track of personal items. Other notable apps included Virtual Perspective, which allows users to explore objects in 3D, Web Tube, a retro-style internet browsing experience, and Mrs. Coffee, which texts users when their coffee is ready. The event also showcased additional hacks such as Mosaic, a screen sharing app for photos, and the creation of a hack that lets a coffee maker text its owner.
