Reviewing the Turso Beta week
Blog post from Turso
Turso represents the next evolution of SQLite, designed to meet the demands of the emerging "Age of Agents," where data needs are shifting from centralized data lakes and warehouses to decentralized, self-contained "databoxes" for numerous agents. While SQLite is known for its simplicity and widespread use, it has limitations that Turso aims to overcome by introducing features such as native browser support, encryption, asynchronous operations, concurrent writes, and live materialized views. These enhancements allow Turso to handle the increased scale and complexity of data operations required by modern agents, including the ability for agents to process fresh, real-time data efficiently. Turso maintains full API and file format compatibility with SQLite but is a comprehensive rewrite to address fundamental architectural constraints, with the goal of offering a robust solution for the decentralized data needs anticipated in the future.
