The top emojis on Twitter for every hour of 2022

An introvert working from home explored the cultural and linguistic functions of emojis worldwide by analyzing Twitter data over the course of 2022, using a simple script to ingest tweets via the Twitter streaming API to a Tinybird account. The project tracked the most used emojis for each hour of the year, revealing the sob emoji as the most frequently used, twice as much as any other. Significant global events throughout 2022 were marked by emojis, including the Winter Olympics, Russia's invasion of Ukraine, and Argentina's World Cup victory. The analysis covered over 1 billion tweets, processing more than 1.6 billion emojis, and highlighted the year's emotive digital expressions. Additionally, Tinybird experienced a successful year, with advancements in their platform and business growth, looking forward to new opportunities in 2023.
