Learnings and results of our first User Testing sessions

User testing in product development, though challenging to implement due to the logistics of scheduling and preparation, is invaluable for gaining insights into user behavior and product improvements. At Tinybird, user testing has been integrated into the development process to continuously validate ideas and refine the product, which is designed to query large quantities of data through interactive applications. An initial user testing initiative saw 32 volunteers sign up within 36 hours, leading to nine completed tests that provided a wealth of feedback. The tests aimed to evaluate the usability of Tinybird's revamped UI in tasks such as importing CSV files, conducting exploratory queries, and publishing API endpoints. Key findings included the importance of clear user guidance, the pitfalls of automatic features that may hinder learning, and the impact of wording in task instructions. Tinybird plans to incorporate the feedback into future iterations and emphasizes the ongoing value of user testing in the product development lifecycle.
