ClickHouse certification: exam guide for developers
Blog post from Tinybird
ClickHouse Certified Developer is currently the platform’s sole official certification, a $200, two-hour performance-based exam in which candidates complete 10–12 hands-on tasks on a supervised cluster using clickhouse-client. It evaluates practical skills in ClickHouse schema design, MergeTree engine selection, data ingestion, SQL analysis, query optimization, distributed-table basics, and operational diagnostics through tools such as EXPLAIN and system tables. The recommended preparation path is the free ClickHouse Academy Real-time Analytics track combined with repeated practice in ClickHouse Cloud or local Docker environments, with emphasis on completing labs rather than relying only on videos or memorization. Candidates can purchase an attempt valid for 365 days, must wait seven days and buy another attempt after a failure, and currently face no listed prerequisites or certification expiration date. The credential may be useful for data engineers, backend developers, and consultants who work directly with ClickHouse, but it does not demonstrate broader production platform capabilities such as operating high-volume Kafka pipelines, managing Keeper failures, building authenticated APIs, or maintaining schema CI/CD workflows.
