Timescale delivered substantial improvements to its relational database for time-series in 2021, building on the PostgreSQL foundation and shipping Timescale Cloud, a database cloud that makes it easy for developers to build and deploy data-intensive applications. The company advanced SQL with new hyperfunctions and function pipelines, tools that improve developer productivity by making it easier to manipulate and analyze time-series data using the SQL developers know and love. Additionally, Timescale made significant investments in observability by embracing OpenTelemetry and launching Promscale, a unified backend for observability data supporting both Prometheus metrics and OpenTelemetry traces. The company also released 13 TimescaleDB releases with new features such as support for PostgreSQL 14, schema modifications and inserts in compressed hypertables, and experimental schema to develop and ship features at an even faster pace.
