We recently attended the NYC installment of the devopsdays event series, where we demoed how to use TimescaleDB as a long-term store for Prometheus metrics, combining Prometheus, TimescaleDB, and Grafana to monitor critical infrastructure. This allows for create-your-own flexibility and customization without adding significant costs. We also discussed the role of a long-term data store and how it enables high availability and advanced capabilities such as full SQL, joins, and replication. Additionally, we highlighted the importance of DevOps Data, including using managed services, taking snapshots of high load periods, and leveraging observability data across clusters to simplify things for Ops teams. The event also featured an Open Space session on DevOps Data, where attendees discussed topics ranging from negotiating pay to DevOps in small companies and certain ecosystems. We answered questions from community members about TimescaleDB's performance at scale, the role of a long-term data store, and how to use TimescaleDB and Prometheus together.
