WebdriverIO v10: What's New for Agent Verification Loops
Blog post from TestMu AI
WebdriverIO v10, released on October 5, 2026, introduces agent-oriented browser, mobile, desktop, and application testing features centered on repeatable verification workflows. Its new `wdio session` command maintains an active test session across shell commands, allowing agents to inspect interfaces, interact with referenced elements, validate results, and export successful actions as standard tests, while `browser.act()` converts natural-language instructions into recorded commands that can be replayed without further model use and can attempt effect-aware recovery when selectors fail. The release also adds an MCP server, structured page-data extraction, DevTools dashboards and portable traces, and browsing-context objects for handling tabs, windows, and frames in BiDi sessions. Upgrading from v9 requires Node.js 22.19 or newer, W3C-only sessions, Appium 3, updated test-framework dependencies, and changes to strict selector behavior, deprecated commands, context switching, and visual-test baselines. For TestMu AI deployments, users can configure the standard WebDriver hub directly, select Appium 3.0.2 for supported real-device testing, use MCP and agent skills, and run suites across large browser, operating-system, and mobile-device grids.
