We Built an Agent That Explores a Web App Before Anyone Writes a Test
Blog post from TestMu AI
Kane CLI Exploration is presented as an AI-driven capability for mapping and assessing undocumented web applications by autonomously visiting reachable pages, controls, screen states, and user flows from a supplied URL. Running as a long-lived cloud job with up to 20 concurrent browsers, it incrementally updates an application map across runs, identifies new or changed flows, records learned context in skill files, and displays results in TestMu AI Test Manager. Users can restrict exploration through read-only or change-enabled modes, domain and control restrictions, credentials, tunnels, screen priorities, and scoped objectives to reduce risk when navigating live systems. The agent reports potential UX, security, accessibility, visual-change, and coverage issues with supporting evidence such as video clips, logs, and affected HTML elements, though findings require human review because observed behavior may be intentional or defective. The resulting map can also provide context for generating test cases and acceptance criteria, which teams can review and integrate into CI alongside existing Playwright, Selenium, or Cypress suites. Current limitations include web-only support, dependence on credentials for protected areas, limited access in read-only mode, and a need for human judgment to distinguish design choices from bugs.
