Using Playwright With GitHub Actions: CI/CD With AI Triage and Healing
Blog post from TestMu AI
AI adoption in CI/CD remains limited within actual build and test execution, despite broader use for adjacent tasks, and the guide describes a Playwright GitHub Actions workflow that adds advisory AI triage, tightly controlled automated locator repair, and remote cross-browser testing through TestMu AI. Failed Playwright tests produce JSON reports and error-context files containing error logs, accessibility snapshots, and test source, allowing an OpenAI-compatible model to classify unexpected failures as test, application, environment, or unknown issues while excluding flaky tests that pass on retry. The triage script caps both failure count and context size, posts results to job summaries and pull requests, never changes the build verdict, and avoids processing forked pull requests when secrets are unavailable. A separately triggered Claude Code healer can create commits only after a maintainer applies an ai-heal label to a same-repository pull request, with restrictions limiting edits to locators, waits, and test data rather than assertions or skipped tests, while human reviewers retain approval and merge authority. The workflow also runs the same suite locally and on TestMu AI cloud browsers across Windows and macOS, preserving session logs, video, and network evidence for investigation. Recommended safeguards include minimal permissions, selective secret exposure, prompt and tool restrictions, artifact sensitivity controls, bounded model spending, and a staged rollout that validates AI classifications before enabling automated repair.
