In June 2021, Bala Kuchibhotla introduced the concept of "data tessellation" with his company Tessell, aiming to innovate the Database as a Service (DBaaS) sector by applying the art and science of tessellation to data management. Tessellation, an art form popularized by M.C. Escher, involves creating repeating patterns without gaps and has applications in art, mathematics, and computer science. In data management, this concept translates to better organization and management of data across various environments, optimizing infrastructure costs, and creating a self-service database experience.
