Benchmark Tessell for PostgreSQL against Aurora PostgreSQL

Tessell conducted a performance benchmarking study to evaluate the capabilities of Amazon's Aurora RDS for PostgreSQL compared to Tessell's own PostgreSQL database service. Utilizing the PGIO benchmarking tool, they tested both systems under high-performance compute scenarios, focusing on metrics such as random I/O operations per second (RIOPS) and cache hits. Aurora PostgreSQL, configured with db.r5.2xlarge and db.r5.xlarge instances, showed substantial throughput, yet Tessell's database service, particularly in the High-Performance Compute (HPC) configuration, outperformed Aurora by 70% in IOPS for equivalent workloads while also providing better cost efficiency. The results indicated Tessell HPC's superior performance, especially in environments with demanding workload requirements, highlighting its potential for users seeking predictable pricing and enhanced database performance.
