Dreaming of something better
Blog post from SurrealDB
SurrealDB is a cloud graph database developed to streamline application building and scaling by offering a flexible, structured data storage and querying system inspired by several existing databases. Initiated in 2016 using Golang and later rebuilt in Rust to enhance data-sharing guarantees, SurrealDB seeks to simplify the development process by eliminating complex APIs and backends, allowing applications to be built directly against the database via web browsers. In 2021, SurrealDB was open-sourced in a private beta, and as of the announcement of its 1.0-beta version, it supports a highly scalable and distributed environment with a performant query language and embedded JavaScript functions. The founders, Jaime and Tobie Morgan Hitchcock, invite developers to engage with the platform through various channels and provide feedback, as the database is now available in open beta to the public.
