We raised $12M to build a text editor

Supermaven has secured $12 million in funding from Bessemer Venture Partners, along with support from notable figures like OpenAI co-founder John Schulman and Intercom founder Eoghan McCabe, to develop a new text editor. This editor is designed to work with their models to aid developers in managing large codebases more efficiently, building on their existing Supermaven editor extensions used by over 40,000 developers in platforms like VS Code and JetBrains IDEs. The creation of a standalone editor stems from reaching the limitations of current editor extensions, which can't fully utilize new AI-driven features that require custom user interfaces. By developing their own editor, Supermaven aims to harness these AI advancements, marking a significant evolution in software development tools and interfaces, driven by a small team of five engineers.
