AI Security Governance: The 2026 Controls That Hold
Blog post from Superblocks
AI security governance applies enforceable security controls, assigned ownership, and auditable evidence to AI systems after broader AI governance has determined whether a project should proceed. It addresses risks across model inputs, accessible data, identities and permissions, and interaction logs, with particular attention to prompt injection, excessive agency, sensitive-data exposure, supply-chain threats, and unauthorized “shadow AI” use. Drawing on NIST AI RMF, ISO/IEC 42001, the EU AI Act, OWASP LLM Top 10, and MITRE ATLAS, the text recommends inventorying all AI systems, classifying their impact, assigning a responsible owner, embedding permission and security checks into deployment pipelines, centralizing logs, and conducting scheduled red-team testing. It argues that pipeline-based controls and evidence collection should be implemented before creating governance committees, while approval processes should remain fast enough to discourage employees from using unapproved tools. Regulatory obligations, including EU AI Act logging and oversight requirements and existing GDPR and HIPAA protections, make such governance especially important for systems handling sensitive data, performing write actions, or operating with agentic autonomy. The text also describes platform-level controls such as role-based access, data-plane isolation, integration management, and centralized audit logging as a way to make safeguards consistent across internally developed AI applications.
