Auth0, a customer identity management platform, announced the deprecation of its Rules and Hooks features in favor of unifying extensibility under the new Actions segment, starting October 16, 2023, with a complete phase-out by November 2024. This transition, influenced by Auth0's integration into the Okta identity platform, has raised concerns among users due to technical limitations in Actions, such as the lack of support for account linking, access to all custom IdP attributes, and mapping custom SAML attributes to app metadata. Despite providing migration resources, some customers might face challenges adapting to Actions, with alternative solutions like Stytch being suggested as they offer embedded authentication with tighter integration, version control, and additional features like device fingerprinting and account deduplication. The decision reflects Auth0's strategy to streamline and centralize features, though its success in addressing user needs remains to be seen.
