Vibe Coding Got You 80%. Here's What the Last 20% Actually Takes.

Moltbook, an AI-agent-only social network reportedly built entirely through “vibe coding,” illustrated both the speed and limitations of AI-assisted software development when security flaws exposed private messages, enabled account impersonation, and left the platform open to scams and unmoderated abuse. AI coding tools can rapidly produce polished prototypes with common features such as authentication, interfaces, basic real-time messaging, and simple feeds, but they often do not address the production requirements hidden beyond the “happy path.” Reliable video requires global signaling, STUN/TURN infrastructure, media routing, device support, resiliency, and cost management; chat requires consistent message ordering, cross-device synchronization, scalable read receipts, offline delivery, and privacy controls; and feeds require fanout strategies, ranking, aggregation, rate limits, and reconnection handling. Moderation adds further technical, human, and legal obligations, including adaptive content detection, reviewer and appeals systems, audit trails, reporting tools, and compliance with platform policies and regulations. The author argues that teams should use AI to accelerate application logic and prototypes while relying on experienced engineering or established infrastructure providers for the network, reliability, safety, and operational layers that become critical at real-world scale.
