Nomadtable Grows Messages 7,536% with Stream Chat

Nomadtable was founded by former software engineer Jay after solo hostel travel highlighted the difficulty of meeting other travelers, inspiring him to create an app for people to connect abroad. Working initially alone, Jay integrated Stream Chat in about a week rather than building chat infrastructure himself, making messaging central to activity coordination, nearby traveler direct messages, public city rooms, group chats, polls, and temporary live location sharing. Safety measures began with profanity filtering and manual review of flagged content, later expanding through virtual assistants and Stream AI moderation as monthly text moderations rose from 145,000 in October 2025 to 4 million in July 2026. In just over a year, Nomadtable’s monthly active users increased 3,225%, messages grew from 55,000 to 4.2 million, and the platform reached about 2 million users with a 70% engagement rate and a 4.7 App Store rating based on more than 120,000 reviews. Its three-person team plans to continue expanding while relying on the existing chat infrastructure to remain stable and scalable.
