npm, yarn and pnpm are now supported natively in WebContainers

WebContainers, a technology developed by StackBlitz, now natively supports all major package managers, including npm, yarn v1, and pnpm, enhancing compatibility and significantly increasing installation speeds by up to five times compared to local environments. This advancement marks the culmination of extensive research and development efforts aimed at improving speed and safety, with native npm support facilitating the transition from the previously used custom npm client, Turbo, which will be deprecated by January 2024. The update introduces a change in how peer dependencies are handled, with npm automatically installing them, unlike Turbo, necessitating some adjustments by users. As WebContainers technology stabilizes, StackBlitz, led by CEO Eric Simons, plans to focus on additional features to advance web development, while continuing to engage with the community through events like ViteConf and supporting open-source initiatives.
