Unlocking the Secrets of International Mobile Equipment Identity
Blog post from SSOJet
The International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) is a unique 15-digit identifier assigned to mobile devices, enabling carriers and manufacturers to recognize devices on networks, manage warranty and service records, and improve security. A reported IMEI can be blacklisted if a phone is stolen, restricting the device’s ability to connect to participating mobile networks and reducing its resale value. Variants include the standard GSM IMEI, IMEISV, which incorporates software version information, and different identification structures used by CDMA devices. Users can generally find an IMEI by dialing *#06#, checking device settings, or inspecting the phone’s exterior or battery area. Unlike a SIM number, which identifies a subscription, or a manufacturer serial number, the IMEI primarily identifies the physical device for network-related purposes.
