SSO and Managed Detection and Response: A Layered Security Guide
Blog post from SSOJet
Single sign-on verifies that an identity successfully authenticated but cannot determine whether subsequent actions, including administrator creation, audit-setting changes, or unusual data exports, were legitimate, especially when attackers use phished credentials and MFA codes. Effective SaaS security monitoring therefore combines identity, product administration, export and API, cloud control-plane, and endpoint events using shared tenant, user, timestamp, and correlation identifiers, while avoiding logging sensitive credentials or tokens. Managed SOC and MDR providers can supply round-the-clock investigation, threat hunting, and response for teams without sufficient internal coverage, but their value depends on explicitly defined log coverage, integrations, response authority, approval processes, evidence retention, and knowledge of the customer environment. The recommended approach is to correlate suspicious post-login activity with business context and change records, preserve evidence before remediation, establish who can terminate sessions or revoke access, and test the complete process from event collection through escalation and authorized containment before an incident occurs.
