Central Equipment Identity Register Explained
Blog post from SSOJet
The Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) is a telecommunications system that records and verifies mobile devices through their unique International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) numbers. When a device connects to a network, its IMEI can be checked to confirm that it is valid and has not been reported stolen, allowing legitimate devices to access services while blocking blacklisted ones. CEIR typically stores IMEI numbers, device status information, and network connection details, helping operators prevent fraud, improve network security, and support the tracking of stolen phones. Similar in purpose to vehicle identification and electronics serial-number registries, CEIR makes stolen devices less usable by preventing them from connecting to participating mobile networks.
