Summary

Enterprise customers evaluating B2B SaaS products often require authentication audit logs that can be exported to their SIEM, prompting questions about covered events, fields, retention, delivery, tenant isolation, and immutability. Effective logs should record when, where, who, and what for authentication successes and failures, sessions, authorization and configuration changes, credential lifecycle events, provisioning activity, and staff access to customer data, while excluding secrets such as passwords, access tokens, session identifiers, raw assertions, private keys, and unnecessary sensitive personal data. Logs should use synchronized UTC ISO 8601 timestamps with sub-second precision, distinguish event time from ingestion time, preserve events from internal or trusted actors with appropriate classifications, and remain append-only except for automated retention-based deletion. Retention should meet applicable legal, regulatory, and contractual minimums without retaining data indefinitely, with exports allowing customers to store records longer in their own systems. A cursor-based query API using stable JSON schemas and ordering identifiers is presented as a practical baseline for delivery, while multi-tenant exports must strictly restrict customers to their own records and preserve historical context for deleted users. Publishing these capabilities and limitations in product documentation can reduce repeated security-review delays and help customers map the service to SOC and other compliance expectations.
